Tile is an extremely durable material and the best one for your bathroom. Prior to tiling a shower, I create my own shower pan made of concrete mix. I am able to construct it so that it drains properly and will last much longer than prefabricated foam, rubber, or plastic pans.  I use liquid waterproofing material over the majority of the shower space to prevent any kind of water damage that could potentially occur. This also applies to shower/tub combos. My process allows me to provide a 20 year guarantee on all my work.
